Sharing Stories Through Scrapbooking

Sharing Stories Through Scrapbooking

It all began back in 2010.  There was no “FOREVER” then. My journey with digital scrapbooking started rather unexpectedly.

My husband and I had decided to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary early.  We headed to Lynden, Washington to attend the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.  We drove from Lethbridge, Alberta area in early April and enjoyed a wonderful time together.  Friends had gone earlier and surprised us with a CD of pictures of the beautiful flowers, field upon field of blooming tulips of all different colors and shades - and daffodils, too! It truly was beautiful.

As we were travelling back to Canada, we stopped in Spokane, WA, following a GPS lead to a Creative Memories dealer who sold scrapbooking products from her home.  I was amazed by her beautiful scrapbook pages and what she could do using just her computer!  It was at that moment that I decided to learn to do that, too.  We bought StoryBook Creator Plus 3.0 to start.

Even as someone very new on the computer, I found the software easy to navigate once it was installed on my home desktop.  I decided to start a rather monumental project and put together a book of the first 25 years of my husband's and my marriage.  No small task.

I got out paper and pen to write down ideas, and then the pages started coming fast. I covered from when my husband and I met and started dating all the way until our 25th wedding anniversary!  That is a lot of material to cover!  Our first house, our 5 babies, moving to the farm, children’s achievements, graduations, vacations, and even a wedding!  I was at page 100 when it seemed like the book wouldn’t go any further.  It was done!  Wow!  What a wonderful keepsake! My family was thrilled and I had officially caught the digital scrapbooking bug!

Then Creative Memories went under, so I changed to Panstoria scrapbooking software and then Artisan 4 software through FOREVER.

I’ve made family history books for both sides of our families.  I made sure all our children got copies as well.  My husband’s father decided to get books made for all his children and grandchildren, so his story would be remembered.  That was around 25 books!!

All 5 children are now married, grandchildren are here, and more are coming.  My goal is to make a book for every grandchild’s 1st year.  I have 6 made so far and have 3 more to go!  Since 2013, I’ve also done yearly scrapbooks, which usually land up to be 50 pages, and a few other gift ones along the way.

Family is important to me. Every family and every person has a story!  Scrapbooking is such a great way to preserve that story and share it with others.  And it's so fun showing these books to the many people who visit our home.

I really enjoy all the wonderful scrapbooking kits, layouts, and help from the FOREVER Support Team.  Everything works together so well and the finished product is top notch!! Everyone who sees my books are amazed that I actually made them myself.  I find these books so much more fun to look at than old photo albums - and they don’t take nearly as much room on our shelf!

So thanks, FOREVER, for making it easy to learn and be creative.  I've finally found a craft I will stick with! I don’t need a crop room to make a book – just my computer.  Wonderful!  Nothing falls out or gets lost.  I’m sold!

I do have one wish though, FOREVER - a Canadian office!!
